The canyon is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in southeastern France. The gorge is about 25 km long and up to 700 m deep. The river canyon is formed by the Verdon River, which is named for its turquoise-green colour. At the end of the canyon, the river flows into the Croix du Verdon lake.
